Clear Connections

Complexity is defined by the relationships between the components of systems, captured by the networks they form. Indeed, systems as diverse as the world wide web, Internet or the cell are described by highly interconnected networks with amazingly complex structure—these networks define our biological existence, our social context, and our ability to communicate. I will discuss our journey to capture the order characterizing this interconnected world, together with our efforts to bring out the hidden connections that define this complexity. It will be a voyage from the interactome, the network within our cells that define our health to the connectome, the brain network that defines our consciousness, and from confusing hairballs to the clear connections 3D printed physical networks.
